IM SPIEGEL DES SEIENDEN
Modell for a Room-Installation. 2010
A white space with white objects with black borders as if drawn, labelled like a 3-dimensional ontological encyclopaedia, to be entered through a mirror - between the world of senses and the world of reason.
Normally we perceive the surfaces of entities - with all their colours, forms, structures, reflections, shadows and signs of usage - telling us what kind of object we see. But what is beneath / inside / in between? What if we extract all the layers and only look at the nature / the essence / the meaning of a thing?
According to Plato's Theory Of Forms there is an empire of IDEAS - archetypes of reality - that shape the visible world and can only be recognized by reason.
Therefore the IDEA is what actually exists, eternally unchanging, present in a singular object but still separated from it and impossible to be perceived by our five senses.
Such IDEAS are the base of this piece.
